We are forming a close-to-nature forestry cooperative

Profit from a healthier planet

Forestry has a dark past

The way we have done things doesn’t have to be the way we do things. The early infrastructure of this country was built on the destruction of the natural environment. Great forests were felled to build houses, ships, railways, and buildings. Today our country produces almost all of its timber from monocultural plantations of exotic pine and harvests it using the same destructive method as a century ago — clear felling.

We need solutions

Right now the world is grappling with both a climate and biodiversity crisis. We need to suck carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, use less carbon intensive building products, apply less damaging approaches to forestry, and provide habitat for our vulnerable wildlife. At the same time many people are looking for an investment which doesn’t prioritise profit over planet.

We have a solution

At Treeherder we think close-to-nature sustainable forestry based on planted native timber species is one of the solutions. We also think a cooperative is the best business mechanism to implement this over the long term.
